Headache Specialist in Colorado Springs

Novera Headache Center

If you are a headache or migraine sufferer who lives in or can easily get to Colorado Springs, Novera: Headache Center was created just for you. We strive to bring you the best natural care for your headaches and migraines, enough with the dependence on medication. There are many types of providers out there, primary care doctors, neurologists, chiropractors, etc, who all may treat headaches from time to time, but also work with a wide array of patients. Here at Novera, all we do is treat headaches and migraines. We are physical therapists who specialize in headaches and migraines, and essentially, any type of head, neck or facial pain.

So what does that look like? We are movement specialists, our focus is on restoring the body’s movement. We can assess for neck issues, especially upper neck issues that tend to be the source of most headaches.

For example, turning your head (roughly 80-90 degrees of movement) should be a 50/50 split between the upper neck and the mid/lower neck. However, what we find nearly all the time is a loss of all upper neck motion and complete compensation from the mid/lower neck.

Once we know the issues, we can help resolve them naturally with hands-on treatment, occasionally using tools like dry needling, and properly prescribed exercises along with education that leaves you feeling empowered. In the simplest terms, we create more space and improve the “slide and glide” of our body’s tissues, ie, joints, muscles and nerves. When tissues have more space, they are much less likely to cause pain.

We know that the problem can be bigger than “just the neck”so we are constantly looking at the research on anything related to headaches and migraines. For example, the role of diet, caffeine, how medications work and their effectiveness, commonly associated symptoms such as nausea, TMJ pain, light and sound sensitivity. We try to peel back the layers so we not only know their associations, but why and how they affect headaches and migraines. We strive to find answers and explanations, because we know so many headache sufferers out there don’t feel like they have any.
