How Does Ginger Treat Headaches and Migraines?

Ginger root offers multiple health benefits. One benefit is that it helps treat headaches and migraines.

Ginger has a natural oil which contains chemical compounds that treats inflammation, nausea, and vomiting.

Ginger can also increase your levels of serotonin, which acts as a chemical messenger during migraine attacks. Increasing serotonin can help your migraines by reducing inflammation and constricting blood vessels.

Ginger can help reduce the symptoms of migraines, as well as reduce the frequency of your migraine attacks. There are several different and easy ways to incorporate ginger into your diet. Try any of the following methods:

1. Take a ginger supplement

Ginger supplements contain ginger powder or extract which is proven to be effective for
migraines. A typical dose is 550 mg, taken when a headache or migraine attacks. You can find
ginger supplements at a pharmacy or food store.

2. Apply ginger essential oil to your temples

Rub diluted oil on your temples or put a few drops on a cotton ball, and you may find that the
aroma soothes your nausea. You can also try adding it to a warm bath or steam diffuser.

3. Suck on a ginger lozenge

This is a good option if you don’t want to drink ginger tea, or prefer not to use essential oils.
Ginger lozenges will help your nausea. They can be found at pharmacies or food stores.

4. Add ginger to a meal

Try seasoning your meals with ginger for a delicious flavor, and it may ease your headache pain, inflammation, or nausea. Ginger is good in shrimp stir fry, grilled salmon, salads, soup, or cakes.
