When do I need to go to the ER?

There are roughly 1.2 million migraine-related ER visits every year in the US. More than a quarter of these visits result in a re-visit within 6 months due to headache pain. 80% of the patients do not see a physician, or physical therapist, or visit any headache clinic for their migraines.

More shockingly, 60% of the ER patients were not encouraged to seek help from a physical therapist, and 40% were not prescribed any medication.

Migraine sufferers ought to seek help from places like Novera that can offer lasting relief from future headaches and pain. We don’t want you to live in constant fear of your next migraine attack or the next time you may need to drive to the emergency room. We are here to help you find ,a permanent solution. However, if you have a particularly severe migraine attack or have not yet seen a physical therapist, always be prepared to drive to the ER if necessary. This way you are not scrambling for these items while trying to combat a migraine.

You may need to go to the ER if you are experiencing the following:

– Extreme vision, speech, and balancing problems
– Migraine/headache symptoms that persist after several hours
– A fever accompanies your migraine
– The headache starts suddenly, like a thunderclap, especially if your age exceeds 50.

It is always better to be prepared and know the drill of procedure in these cases. Come to Novera and seek help from Dr. Taves, our physical therapist, to get help for a lasting solution that won’t send you to the ER.
